No matter the windfall, I will need a residence. Simply put, even at the lowest of $1,000,000 – I will be able to have the money necessary to buy a basic house, and with that – I want to make sure I can recover if the worst should every happen. With that in mind, home insurance is essential in my budget.
There will be a number of features that would hopefully reduce the cost of insurance. For one, I will have in-ground radiant heating. This system will check the weather for anytime the temperature goes below freezing, and there is expected precipitation (snow, or sleet). If those two conditions are yes, then the in-ground radiant heating will activate, and evaporate the snow and sleet before it has a chance to stick to the ground. This will mean my sidewalk is clear of any snow, or worse – ice. This means no one will be slipping because the ground is slippery from snow or ice. And since the system is automatic, there is no need to shovel and salt the sidewalk.
In addition, there will be a fire sprinkler system in every room. If a room caught fire, the sprinkler will turn on attacking the fire until the fire department can arrive. If all works out, the fire will be contained to one room which makes repairs much cheaper to do. This is obvisouly preferable to having the entire building burn down. There will also be grid connected smoke detectors. This means the smoke detector is hard wired into the building electrical system. As long as there is electricity in the house, the smoke deterctor will behave as expected. In the event of a power outage, then the detector will rely on battery.
The house will have elevators. This will not only allow me to live and die in my residence, but it would allow a visitor to not have to use the stairs to get to a different floor. This is especially helpful if my guest was on crutches. Trust me – I know! And since there will be an elevator, the stairs in the residence will be spiral.
Last is a security measure. There will be security cameras in all of the public, and common spaces. Bathrooms, and Bedrooms will not have cameras. There will also be an alarm system that I will pay a monthly fee to keep running. This will allow the security company to intervene if they can’t reach me for whatever reason. This could be as simple as calling emergency services, or the police.
