I will want a 5U Rack mount server which will provide for 20 NAS? quality hard drives. This NAS will support not only for back ups, but archiving as well. In example, I have letters that I wrote in the past. I will not be making changes to these letters, and makes no sense to keep them on the computer taking up valuable computer space. Instead, I will do my letter writing at home, and save all of my files (including those written) to the NAS. By selecting this as a default when writing, it will keep my notebook’s 8TB storage as low in demand as possible.
The NAS will also function as a Time Machine back-up solution. Since I will buy a MacBook Pro to replace my iMac, and MacBook Air, this will allow me to have at least 16TB? of storage to backup the computer. Since I will likely not get anywhere that 8TB, I will have more than enough storage to protect my interest. My music files will remain on my computer. This however is only taking about 65GB? of storage, so not really anything to worry about if I had 8TB of storage. This will be a harder pill to swallow on my MacBook Air which only has 512GB of storage. I will have 2 computers with one being the MacBook Pro, and the second one will be a Framework16 which will have Zorin OS? on it. There will be a copy of Windows in a virtual machine?. This NAS will not do file synchronization leaving that to the Asustor NAS.
